It was a cold winter day when my wife and I decided to take a drive and explore Johnston Canyon. We live relatively close, only 148 kilometers away, so it only took us about an hour and a half to get there. We weren’t sure what to expect since it was our first time visiting the canyon in the winter, but we were excited to see the sights.
When we arrived at the canyon, we were surprised to see that there weren’t many other visitors. The parking lot was almost empty, which was a stark contrast to the summer months when it’s usually crowded with tourists. We parked our car and started our hike along the trail. The trail was covered in a thin layer of snow, which made the hike a bit more challenging, but also added to the beauty of the scenery.
As we walked along the trail, we saw some incredible sights. The canyon walls were covered in ice and snow, creating a winter wonderland. We saw frozen waterfalls, icicles, and even some wildlife tracks in the snow. It was truly a magical experience.
We hiked for about two hours, taking plenty of pictures along the way. We even stopped to have a picnic lunch at one of the scenic spots along the trail. The views were breathtaking, and we felt like we had the canyon all to ourselves.
Overall, our winter visit to Johnston Canyon was a great success. We had a wonderful time exploring the canyon in a different season and experiencing all that winter had to offer. We definitely plan on visiting again in the future to see how the canyon changes throughout the year. If you haven’t visited Johnston Canyon yet, I highly recommend adding it to your travel bucket list. It’s a beautiful destination that’s worth exploring any time of year.
